Our Mission

Curved House Kids and Lucy Hawking are on a mission to ensure all children have access to fun, empowering STEM and literacy resources. The Principia Space Diary allows students to create a memory of the Principia mission they can keep forever. Class teachers from primary schools in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are invited to sign up to the website to access the entire Space Diary for free, plus lesson plans, differentiated teaching materials, games and extension activities. Schools can also order printed copies of the Space Diaries so children can complete their own physical book.

The 2017 programme launched on December 15, the anniversary of Tim Peake’s first mission to space, and schools can complete the programme at any time during the 2017 school year. A monthly e-newsletter provides inspiration and showcases the work schools are doing all around the UK.

How to get involved

In 2015-16, over 60,000 space apprentices across the UK followed Tim Peake’s mission while completing their diaries. To join the 2017 programme:

  1. Sign up to register your school (or as a home educator). Registration gives you free access to all of the Space Diary content online, to download and print yourself. Once logged in you will have the option to purchase printed books (Space Diaries) and a welcome pack with stickers and a poster.
  2. Start on the Pre-launch Chapter which is available to download now from the website (once you’re logged in).
  3. Watch out for the remainder of the content, to be released on Tuesday 31st January.
  4. Complete the entire Space Diary programme by 31st July 2017 to get personalised Completion Certificates signed by Tim Peake sent to your class.
